Sun Pictures’ Rs. 200 crore film Endhiran is officially said to have been produced at a cost of Rs. 132 crore and finally the collections were displayed at Rs. 179 crore. Earlier, a three week prediction suggested collections of about Rs. 318 crore and the unofficial figures could somewhere be around Rs. 400 crore or more, say sources.
Rajinikanth enquired about the success of Endhiran meeting Kalanidhi Maran and also had enquired about the collections. The Superstar has a share in the profit but these official collection figures sound inadequate.
Sun Pictures is ready to either finance or produce Mani Ratnam’s screen adaptation of “Ponniyin Selvan”. Mani Ratnam has long been busy in fine tuning his script with veteran writer Jayamohan. Rajinikanth who had enquired Kalanithi Maran about the profit made from Endhiran also asked him about the possibility of a sequel to Endhiran.
Remember, the famous last scene in Endhiran which continues in 2030. It suggested that Endhiran 2 could be possible in much more of a futuristic tone. However, even if Sun Pictures gives its nod, both Rajinikanth and Shankar have to clear their prior commitments of Rana and Nanban respectively.
Nanban has just started while Rana is yet to begin. When both these films are complete, both Shankar and Rajni might come together for Endhiran 2 which will be another sci-fi extravaghanza. For now, Mani Ratnam’s “Ponniyin Selvan” is fast progressing with Vijay, Vikram and Vishal decided to be cast but it requires a long wait since it is in its very early stages.
Big flicks are bound to come by courtesy of Sun Pictures and the best of films are expected to be made which will be a treat to the audience.
