Maniratnam's hectic tour for location hunting for Ponniyin Selvan

Ace director Maniratnam has taken up something which had always remained a challenge to leading heroes like MGR and Kamal Haasan and many of his contemporaries. He has embarked on a mission to bring to celluloid version the epic novel ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, penned by the late Kalki and based on the life and times of Raja Raja Chola, arguably the greatest ever Tamil King.

Mani had recently been to the State of Rajasthan, which has more number of palaces than any other State in the country. Mani had apparently been on a ‘location hunting’ tour during when he visited the various historical palaces at Jaisalmer, Jaipur and elsewhere to locate the suitable places where he would soon be shooting for his ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.
With Vijay, Mahesh Babu, Arya, Sathyaraj and Anushka set to star in the epic film, it has already generated quite a lot of expectations as to how the director would be handling the historical subject, a first in his career spanning more than two decades.
Soon after returning from Rajasthan, Mani went all the way upto Kanniyakumari down South to look for locations to shoot the film’s portions. Sources close to him say that the director didn’t mind eating and putting up at pretty ordinary restaurants and lodges on the way to and from Kanniyakumari.
